Most budget e-bikes use a cadence sensor, which simply switches the motor on when the pedals turn. The Core ST 2.0 Plus uses a torque sensor instead: it measures how hard you push and adds power in proportion. The result feels much more like a regular bike with a strong tailwind, and it's the main reason to pick this model.
The 27.5-inch wheels sit between a city bike and a mountain bike, rolling smoothly over potholes and gravel while staying agile in traffic. The dual-crown front fork is adjustable for preload and can be locked out, which is unusual at this price, and the step-through frame makes it easy to get on and off.
Power comes from a 500 W motor with 1,200 W peak, fed by a removable 48 V 10.4 Ah (500 Wh) battery. ACTBEST quotes 40–55 miles per charge and 6–7 hours to recharge. Expert reviews of the closely related Core 2.0 list Class 3 speeds up to 28 mph and a 350 lb payload.
ACTBEST doesn't publish the bike's weight or tire width, and the frame is carbon steel. At $699 it costs more than the basic city bikes here, but the torque sensor and adjustable fork justify the difference for longer rides.
Best for: Commuters and weekend riders who do longer rides on mixed pavement and gravel and want assist that feels like real cycling.
